Who Can Post Bail and When  Back to Top

Any adult (18 or older), except another inmate, can post security 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for an inmate held in the NORCOR jail.  Security is normally called bail.

At NORCOR an inmate just booked in can post part or the entire security amount using cash in his or her possessions at the time of the arrest.  Another person can post an inmates bail in the form of cash, money orders,  cashier's check (not to exceed $200), or a check from local attorney's.  All other forms of payment will not be accepted.  Cashiers checks, money orders must be made out to the presiding court.

How Much to Post   Back to Top

To find out an inmate’s security amount go to the Current Inmate Information Page  on the jail web page or call 541-298-1576.  Normally the amount shown is 10% of the security amount.  However, for some traffic violation charges it may be the full security amount.  In any case, the amount shown is what must be paid.

For an inmate with multiple criminal charges stemming from a single incident (case number), a person need only pay security for the charge that has the highest security of all the charges.  For multiple charges for traffic offenses, like DUII’s, the security must be paid for each charge.

The security needed may change at any time because of changes in the charges, or a court’s actions regarding the security amount.

Where to Go to Pay the Bail  Back to Top

To post security during regular business hours go to the NORCOR Work Release door located just west of the Administration Lobby.

The work release Accounting Counter is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, except for holidays.

Forms of Payment  Back to Top

To post Bail or place money on an inmate’s account:

NORCOR does not accept any credit cards, personal, two-party, traveler’s, payroll, or business checks; or other negotiable instruments or assets, such as property, for security.

NORCOR accepts cashier’s checks and money orders. In addition, you must bring a business card, letter, or official document that gives the name and local telephone number of a contact at the issuing bank.  A cashier’s  check may be from out of state but not out of the United States.  Please make the cashier’s checks & money orders payable to the court.

You must present official picture identification (such as a driver’s license, state ID card, or passport) and not be under the influence to drugs or alcohol when posting security.

Release of the Inmate after Posting  Back to Top

The jail will release the inmate as soon as possible, however the operational needs of the jail at that time and whether the inmate needs to check out of his or her housing unit and change back into civilian clothing, may cause delays in the release process.  If you are the victim of the inmate you must leave the area before the inmate leaves the jail.

Return of Security (Bail)  Back to Top

NORCOR does not handle, control, or refund bail/ security once it is posted.  It is forwarded to the courts for processing.

The court does not refund security until all of the conditions of the release agreement are performed, all court appearances are complete, the defendant is discharged from all obligations in the case, and the case is closed.

The security is subject to forfeiture if the defendant fails to appear in court as scheduled or violates the release agreement.

  1. The court will retain 15% of the amount deposited as security release costs. In no event will the amount be less than $5.00.

  2. The Court may order that the security deposit be applied to any fines, costs, assessments, restitution, contribution, recoupment    or other monetary obligations that are imposed on the defendant in this or any other case.

  3. The Court may order that the security deposit be applied towards the defendant's child support obligations and/or to provide security for future child support and/or to provide security for future child support payments

  4. If the defendant fails to comply with the terms of the security release agreement, the Court may order that the security deposit be forfeited to the State of Oregon.  The Court may also enter a judgment against you for the entire amount of the security set against the defendant. This is not limited to the amount you post.

  5. No money will be refunded until he proceedings in this matter are completed and the Court enters an order releasing the funds. If the defendant is found guilty, no money will be returned until after the sentencing. Unless the Court orders otherwise, these funds will only be refunded to the person who made the deposit as shown on the receipt.

  6. The Court may be required to  notify the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Attorney's Office if more than $10,000.00 is posted by any part.
